2 min read

Project Overview

Client: International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD)
Beneficiary:
Rafic Hariri International Airport
Year: 2019

Project Context

The ICMPD, in collaboration with the European Union, launched a groundbreaking aviation security project in Lebanon in 2018. This initiative demonstrates the EU's dedication to fortifying Lebanon's security sector and fostering stability and safety in the region, with a particular focus on the rule of law, security enhancement, and counterterrorism. A key aspect of this endeavor concerns the enhancement of airport security at Rafic Hariri International Airport, representing a significant stride in the fight against terrorism.

Scope of Work

We procured advanced explosive detection equipment that can identify and detect minute traces of narcotics and explosives on individuals during the security screening process. Subsequently, we conducted end-user training on the operation and maintenance of these devices across various security agencies including the Airport Security Apparatus. The comprehensive end user training program spanned 14 days, encompassing theoretical knowledge on forensics equipment operation and extensive hands-on training. The training emphasized operational proficiency while prioritizing safety measures for both the operating personnel and the public, as well as safeguarding the forensics equipment itself.

Project Impact

We were able to contribute to improved security measures at Rafic Hariri International Airport, leading to a safer environment and bolstered capacity to prevent terrorism. Enhanced operational proficiency among security personnel has resulted in more efficient and accurate screening processes and reduced risks.
